Every month, a client walks into our Kampala studio with the same request: 'We need a logo.' And every month, we ask the same follow-up question that catches them off guard: 'What do you need it to do?'
Compression, not decoration
Because a logo is not just a visual mark. It is a compression algorithm for your entire brand. It has to communicate who you are, what you do, and why someone should care, all in a shape that works at any size, in any context, for years.
Most logos fail not because they are poorly drawn, but because they were designed without a strategic brief. The designer picked a typeface because it looked modern. They chose a colour because it was trendy. They added an abstract shape because the client wanted 'something creative.' None of these decisions were anchored to a business objective.
Designed like an architect
At Pacifique Essence, we approach logo design the way an architect approaches a building plan. Before we draw anything, we ask: Who is this for? What does this organisation do? Where will this logo appear? What does this audience trust? What visual language already exists in this market?
A great logo is invisible when it is working. You do not notice the Nike swoosh. You feel the brand. You do not analyse the Apple icon. You recognise the company. That kind of recognition is not achieved through clever design. It is achieved through strategic design: every element chosen for a reason, every detail serving the whole.
If your logo was designed in an afternoon without a strategy conversation, it is not a logo. It is a placeholder. And placeholders do not build brands.
